The Richards waste greensand reclamation plant operates by pneumatically scrubbing the sand, by allowing the sand to impinge at a higher kinetic energy levels than that normally achieved by vibratory attrition units. Although the system was specifically developed for the reclamation of foundry greensand the principles can be applied to a wide variety of foundry sand types. The reclaimed sand is suitable for reuse in the greensand foundry.

System & Process Overview

The waste greensand is tipped into a bunker, a constant regulated feed is then screened & dried to allow subsequent processing. A small vibratory attrition unit reduces the core butts to grain size particles.
A magnetic separator unit removes the metallic tramp metal from the sand stream. and the core but material is introduced back into the dried greensand stream.
The combined sand stream is then Pneumatically "scrubbed" in the Pneumatic Attrition cell, then cooled and classified, and conveyed to the sand storage silo. Richards offers the complete line of Pneumatic Scrubbers.
The waste clay, coal dust and silica fines from the greensand is collected in the dust collection system by cyclone and bag house.

Richards Engineering Ltd. systems design team have again demonstrated the ability to engineer sand reclamation systems to meet the future environmental demands of the foundry industry.
